Commonwealth Society Competition
The Royal Commonwealth Society competition
Some pupils have already accepted the challenge of creating a story, poem film script or writing an essay on this year’s theme of ‘Science, Technology and Society.’ However, if your child is a budding Mary Shelley or Russell T. Davis, and they have not yet put pen to paper, they still have until 16 April to get their entries to Miss Knowles. The competition is open to all year groups. Pupils will be competing against pcupils of their own age. Some of the questions pupils can choose from are “the mad scientist,” “What positive steps can you or I start to take to tackle climate change?” For the more philosophical there is “Science never solves a problem without creating ten more. Or “What is knowledge? Who owns it? How can it best be taught or transmitted?”
As well as the internal competition four entries from each age group will be selected to go forward to represent the school at the international level competing against entrants from other Commonwealth countries. For more details see Miss Knowles or go to www.thercs.org/youth/competitions .
